Acre’s Urban Renewal

Aqueduct meets central bus station in Acres outdoors.

Acre’s Central Bus Station urban renewal project skillfully integrates two historical landmarks to create new public spaces that extend beyond the project's immediate boundaries. The first landmark is Pasha's Aqueduct, a 19th-century waterway whose remnants weave through the plan's area. The axis of the aqueduct has been repurposed to form an open-air corridor, linking parks and residential areas and reconnecting Acre’s old city with the open spaces of western Galilee.

The second landmark is Acre’s existing Central Bus Station, a distinctive 1970s concrete Brutalist structure. This station is being transformed into a vibrant commercial building, complete with a public square and a promenade, leading to a modern transportation hub. Together, these two elements offer a new way to experience the rich historical layers of Acre and extend out to the city’s surrounding countryside.
