Netanya Cultural Center

A landmark for the community: A new cultural building provides generous performance spaces and a landscape for public activities.

The new Cultural Center will be situated in a prime urban location, adjacent to Kvish Ha'Hof—the main regional highway running through Netanya—and directly across from the Netanya Stadium.

Spanning a substantial 22,500-square-meter plot originally designated for a sports arena, our winning proposal will bring to life a10,000-square-meter, round-shaped cultural hub. This design will maximize open spaces for landscaping and additional uses. The building will house a variety of performance spaces, including a 950-seat auditorium, a 250-seat black box theater, a 400-seat rooftop theater, and a fringe theater accommodating 50 to 100 seats.Complementing these are a main lobby, a community center, office spaces, and two restaurants. A key design philosophy was minimizing the building’s footprint by developing vertically, ensuring visibility from the highway.Unlike the typical sprawling layout of cultural buildings, this design stacks functions efficiently. The main auditorium is located at ground level, with its ceiling doubling as the floor of the lobby and main entrance. The black box theater, gallery, and some community center facilities will occupy the first floor, while offices and additional community spaces will be on the second. The third floor will feature the VIP room, fringe theater, and a café, with access to the rooftop theater. Backstage areas, including performer spaces, stage support, and loading docks, will be situated underground, further reducing the above-ground footprint. The Cultural Center will be enveloped by a lush, park-like setting, complete with café spaces, pavilions, walking paths, and a patio adjacent to the main building. Additionally, a boardwalk will connect the center to nearby office buildings, strengthening its integration into the urban landscape.
