Designed by SANAA in collaboration with HQ Architects, the new campus of the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design creates a vibrant educational and cultural hub for Jerusalem — serving 2,500 students and 500 faculty members.
Located on a hill overlooking the Old City, adjacent to the Russian Compound, the campus unites Bezalel’s nine departments into a single, state-of-the-art facility. In addition to studios, classrooms, and workshops, the building includes galleries, administration, a store, and a café — inviting public engagement and community presence. To foster interdisciplinary collaboration, the academic programs are arranged across staggered horizontal slabs. This open stacking allows students to see one another across departments, encouraging informal exchange and cross-disciplinary projects. Natural light and fresh air filter into the structure from all sides, reaching even its central areas. Throughout the year, these open spaces function as gathering zones — and during exhibitions, they transform into platforms for displaying student work to the wider public. The new Bezalel campus is more than a school — it is a civic landmark and an engine for cultural renewal at the heart of Jerusalem.
